Forward: IV. Green Fields Score & Parts (PDF) - Grade 5
PDFs of the score and parts to "Forward: IV. Green Fields," composed in 2017 and recorded on the 2019 Paul Dietrich Jazz Ensemble album Forward. This is a standalone movement of a four part suite, written in 2017 with support from the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium's Artistic Development Grant.
"Green Fields" was written as a tribute my first great composition teacher and jazz ensemble director, Fred Sturm, who passed away in 2014. After a chorale opening first in the rhythm section then in the band, this modern ballad features a long trumpet solo.
Difficulty Level - Grade 5 (Medium-Difficult College/Professional) - if you've got a trumpet soloist who is ready for the challenge, the parts are not tremendously technically difficult.
Instrumentation: Soprano, Alto (doubles on Clarinet), 2 Tenors, Bass Clarinet, 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, Rhythm, optional Voice
